Amazing Easter Road trip to Ghana via Dealdey (April 2015) - Negative review

Towai! That's the Nigerian pidgin transcription of the bloody hot slap that landed on Paul's face on the second day of hell. The offender was a co-travelling lady who was fed up of the bullshit Paul and his organizing team members had fed us, non-stop, for the past thirty hours.

It's almost midnight and I've got to rush on this article. My aim is to highlight why this deal from Dealdey, is like, the most surprisingly tacky organization I've ever been a victim of. Yes, victim, because that's what I and the other 50+ passengers of the road trip feel like. In that light, I'll make it very simple. I will make a list of all the deal highlights (promises) and indicate the degree to which each one was fulfilled (TL;DR: Promise fulfillment ratio was less than 10 percent).

My new nice shirt from Dealdey offline store

So, yes, it's this shirt I just want to show off to the world, plus I think I kind of look cute today. Maybe it's the shirt, maybe it's the running. Who knows; who cares?

Yeah. That's my shirt. 1000 naira only, courtesy Dealdey. #newFavoriteTShirt
Plus, do you know this pic was totally manufactured by my Android phone, with zero creative direction from me. Google Photos, it's simply amazing. Over time, it's automatically created images ranging from collages, to panoramic views and interesting animations by intelligently combining a bunch of related pictures. Totally, totally rocks.

Goodnight.

Dealdey Offline Store

WARNING! WARNING!! WARNING!!!

This is another of my illicit attempts at driving Dealdey related traffic to my blog. I didn't expect my rant about bad customer experience last year to go so high in search engine rankings. Alas (only for Dealdey though), it did. On the bright side, this one is on the opposite side of the goodwill continuum, as my evil rant was.

Enjoy...

DealDey Customer Care Rant - Final Episode

This post is a sequel to two previous posts. You can find its immediate predecessor here, in which you can then find the first post of this rant series.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On a fair note, I've decided that the first thing to mention in this final post, is that my issue with DealDey has finally been resolved, in a most favorable way. My order for the Sewing Classes deal which I had bought a few weeks ago, has been cancelled. Also, an order for a full refund of the money paid for the deal has been issued on their end. I really could not have asked for more. As a matter of fact, this is exactly what I had asked them to do for me in the very first e-mail. But they delayed; they delayed without excuse, and that is how they got me cross, so cross that I spent so much time penning down so much words.

Morning of last Thursday (20th March 2014), after still not getting any response to my e-mails, I decided to try something different. I picked up my phone, and full of despair, dialed DealDey's customer care line @ 01-4406237. After about three rings, a human being actually picked the phone. This was totally amazing, because my expectation was that I would still have to listen to their, "your call is important to us, please hold" BS for a few minutes (and worse still, at my own expense).

DealDey/Konga customer care - Absolutely non-impressive (continued)

This post is a sequel to one previous post. You can find the predecessor to this post here.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes, DealDey chose silence when what was due to the customer was a few simple words explaining the status of the case. The interpretation of such to me, as I earlier stated in this much needed rant is that my case has been assigned a lowest priority, when judging from it's details, it's something that needs to be resolved/clarified quickly with a simple phone call to the training provider. It's dejecting to find such an unseemly trait in a business whose all essences, I have always admired.

As per treading the path of absolute silence, DealDey is not the first offender on this (as far as I am concerned). No, sister Konga was the trailblazer on that one. A few months ago, I had placed an order of two good looking shirts from their online store. The same day I placed the order, an agent of their called me, relaying the disappointing news that one of the shirts I'd order was OUT OF STOCK!!! Well, fair enough of you to inform me of this change in plans on time, I'd thought to myself. I agreed that the order be modified and the balance for the unavailable shirt be refunded to my account. In the same vein, I got another call a few days later that the size I'd chosen for the other shirt was unavailable. It was quite disappointing to hear that, but what could I do; I agreed to a refund, partly happy that I at least, got to keep my money.

Now, here is how the twist that revealed a laxity in the quality of their customer service was introduced into the story. As part of the payment for this shirt order, I had used all my accumulated loyalty points (which converted to about N200). However, when time came for my order payment to be refunded, Konga performed some magic in a logical world. Fine, they refunded the part of the payment deducted from my debited card. However, I observed that the part of the payment that was done using loyalty points was not. So, I went ahead to initiate a conversation with Konga care, assuming that it had been due to an error of omission. It turns out I was wrong; they actually intended the vanishing of my well-deserved points into thin air. Here's an excerpt of the conversation, which in my opinion, highlights a bleeding lack of tact on the part of this customer rep. and by extension, Konga:

DealDey/Konga customer care - Absolutely non-impressive

Given that I'm not the kind that says too much, I'm not exactly given to ranting. However, after numerous service delivery failures to me by both of these affiliated companies at different times, I think it's a necessity to put some words down and not just keep the grievances burning inside of me. I shall move in reverse chronological order, mostly because it's the latest whose details are clearest in my mind.

1. Sewing Classes Deal:
Remembering this simply makes me shake my head at the degree of irresponsibility and mediocrity in customer service that widely characterizes businesses in Nigeria. One would think a modern company, founded and headed by respectable and well-educated persons would stand out in this area. Alas, common men who only care about how much they're taking home at the end of the month and lack the ability to key into their company's vision have found their way in hordes into these companies. Pardon me for this indiscretion, but this is the only explanation for the poor response my messages to DealDey help has gotten since yesterday, on an issue whose resolution or otherwise holds high consequence for me.
